An all black house is a relatively rare occurrence as it is, but this residence in the desert makes the dark painted facade look all the more enticing. Located in the California desert of Yucca Valley at the peak of a hill, there is hardly anything around this lone home. The site was excavated and planned with safety and emergency responses in mind– leaving accessible roads and utilities available through the construction process and beyond.
Designed by Oller & Pejic Architecture, the home features all black on the interior as well. So not only is there a ‘shadow’ of the outside– but it translates to the interior, too. Beautiful angled lines and space where more covered partial underground areas lay keep the architecture interesting, and the pops of color in the furnishings bring it all to life when looking out over the barren landscape.
