Canada is home to a twelve unit shipping container community by the Atira Women’s Resource Society, that’s ben created with the intent to house women who have been the subject of abuse and are of the low-income level of earnings.
Each unit is about 280 to 290 square feet of space, and offers some extra amenities that probably wouldn’t be possible in these square footages such as a washer/dryer and curtain walls. These twelve residences look like a high end community from the photos of the front facade, and the interiors are quite nice as well. Simple, clean lined and including contemporary layouts, these homes are the ideal spot for the project.
Though not LEED certified due to budgetary costs of building each unit, they are in fact able to gain some recognition for building on a sustainable site, their choice of materials and last but not least, the innovation in design that was put forth to provide a means of more affordable housing.
