Vacation destinations aren’t always a big production when you’re getting away to a spot that isn’t your main residence. As for this popular spot in Japan’s mountainous and forest-like Karuizawa, the homes can be quite spectacular– like the ‘Villa on the Wing’ just one of many in this area by Milligram Studio.
The elongated space offers up an angled roofline that comes to a point and features large eaves that even have a cutout for an existing tree. Keeping nature in mind was an obvious part of the program for this family, and the intersecting parts of the plan create public areas with beautifully vaulted ceilings. Large floor to ceiling windows, concrete and wood make up the simplistic, yet captivating facade of this 2006 built home.
