Explorer and traveler Steve Areen has seen much of the world in his nomadic lifestyle, but his latest adventures have put him at rest in Thailand where he built a home built out of natural materials. With the help of some locals and friends, Areen laid out some roots with compressed earth blocks eventually making up multiple domes.
The ‘Dome House’ is small but certainly livable, and has plenty of little crafty details in the stonework, cutouts and specially made ‘namaste’ door. The project took about six weeks and about $6,000 to get the structure up and done, and with furnishings and all of the final touches Steve had a complete house for under $10,000.
Steve’s next step? To bring the dome home stateside!
