Bioluminescent Waitomo Glowworm Cave

Spaces that glow are always a showstopper. Though this space is out in nature, you can certainly try to replicate it in your home. The Waitomo (or Glowworm) Caves of New Zealand are a huge tourist attraction and natural wonder that’s too gorgeous to pass up.

Now, whether you’re looking to add some twinkling lights, a glowing driveway, black lights or just get inspired by colors; these caves are a breathtaking view. While the end result is awe inspiring, the actual make up of these blue glowing strings are larvae that attach themselves to the ceilings and walls of the dark and wet caves. These “fungus gnats” (as they are called) let their saliva do their hunting by releasing the bioluminescent strings and waiting.

And while they wait? You can take a boat tour to see the large groups in all their glowing glory.
