Containers are a great green way to live if you want to downsize or craft an entirely large home from multiples. In a great majority of cases, shipping container residences are crafted on the horizontal, but Han Slawik‘s version makes use of vertical space with his “HomeBox” designs.

HomeBox 1 is the same standard size as a shipping container and can be transported virtually anywhere. With the small and compact square footprint, the box allows for 150 square feet of usable floor space– and a good portion of that is with the stairs. Though the horizontal versions of shipping containers may be more functional as far as usable space is concerned– Homebox is certainly a great idea for those with a limited footprint or plot.

These homes can create villages and communities of their own, and can be laid out in such a way that each grouping makes a town, according to Slawik. Fill in gaps on plots of land and take your home wherever you please– the world is yours with HomeBox.
