The team over at Akihisa Hirata Architecture Office in Japan created a sleek and simple space that really takes advantage of the tall and narrow plot of land. The interior is based around 3 columns and a large staircase that wraps (or coils) around these columns forming a letter “S.”
The center of the home is focused around the staircase, with the remainder of the main elements staying simple and clean. Built in bookcases store and display books and worldly goods, while the large landings around the bends provide seating areas and opportunities for the kitchen space and play areas. The large and winding steps allow for ample seating to pick up a book at any time and get lost.
