Home additions can go horribly wrong or extremely right. In most cases, families who are leaning toward an add on will have the same architect or builder to just add right on top of the current home. But in the case of this Melbourne home, a family created a contemporary wooden structure complete with a courtyard to add a twist to the current residence.
The private rooms of the home remain in the old construction, while the public/shared areas are all housed within the new build out. Living room, kitchen, garage, and of course the courtyard shares the boundaries of both structures. Giant floor to ceiling windows, simple furnishings and neutral colors were utilized in both spaces to bring some continuity to it all. A great collaboration for two different spaces.
