For some, the harsh Winter season can bring about warm thoughts of a cozy fireplace sitting or cold activities outside. For one New Zealand family, Winter means project time. This interesting DIY igloo is a piece that was formed from old, colorful milk cartons in a time of 5 weeks.
By collecting hundreds upon hundreds of milk cartons and filling the empty shells with colored water then frozen, the bricks for the igloo were formed. One by one, the cartons were peeled away to reveal the gorgeous, glowing ice building material for the outdoor “shed.” Bonding the varying bricks with “snowcrete” (snow and water) was another part of the system, which allowed for a less precise application and more artful process.
