Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has been commissioned for the re-construction of what was the old Christ Church Cathedral after an earthquake shook down the historical structure. Now that all new construction has been approved and two years later the completed space is a beautiful work of art in the city of Christchurch.

Cardboard tubes are utilized to create the high pitched 80 foot triangular roof of the space, and a 20 year lifespan allows the church to be reconfigured once it’s time to alter the design or re-use the parts and pieces for a new space. It’s a beautifully breathtaking solution of temporary architecture on a relatively minimal budget.
