Those who pin surrealist art as smoke and mirrors might be right in the situation of artist Berndnaut Smilde, who creates these simple yet moving cloud installations out of actual clouds. There’s no cotton batting, synthetic fibers or the like– just simple light, moisture and smoke!
With installations all over bearing the title of “Nimbus,” Smilde recreates his signature works in many spaces dating back to 2010. Each setting is a bit more dramatic than the last, with every cloud an interesting variation of the first. The clouds’ presence is typically backlit, with more care taken to the photographic art of this interesting creation by the Dutch artist.
