Sunken Landscape Home by Featherstone Young

Sustainability can play a big role in the way that homes are developed and built these days, and for this Welsh Longhome and its building constraints– Green building techniques and sustainable materials helped this home to become what it is today. Featherstone Young created this unique 2400 square foot home nestled in the lush landscape between two rivers.

Aptly named “Ty-Hedfan,” (or ‘hovering house’ in english) this residence in the Brecon Beacons National Park area is hidden in the land by a partially sunken story. It’s almost invisible from an aerial perspective, but the sloped portion of this home sinks down to have a soft green roof that blends in with the natural surroundings and deciduous plant life.
