Marble Constructed Jigsaw Puzzle Piece Curtain

If there’s an interesting concept that we haven’t seen yet, it has to be the ‘draping’ of marble. It would seem that stone’s inherent properties don’t allow the natural material to drape the way that a curtain might– but Studio Gang Architecture has proved that assumption wrong.

“Marble Curtain” was constructed initially at the Smithsonian in 2003– out of a multitude of shaped marble puzzle pieces all converged together and suspended from the ceiling to become one large, gorgeous installation. The jigsaw style of linking made the structure self supporting, with only a thin layer of resin on the inside to keep the integrity strong and safe for visitors to take a look.

Stunning!
