Shipping containers have been getting a lot of love in the design community for awhile now, and the food truck revolution has begun in many parts of the country. What do you get when you combine the two? Someone as crazy about functional design as they are good food. Owner Jon Darsky is the proud owner of Del Popolo, authentic pizza on wheels in San Francisco, CA.
A vast majority of the 20 foot truck is an traditional wood-fired oven which reaches about 800 degrees and the other 2/3 of the interior is dedicated to preparation, wood and food storage. Darsky worked day and night with 4 designers to help him with the fitment of the container on a heavy-duty delivery truck which cost a pretty penny, too– to the tune of $180,000.
But nonetheless, customer’s get a show through the rustic glass doors and pizza in about a minute.
