Though there is no one woman who would give up 600 of her own shoes for an art installation, this piece by Japanese international artist Chiharu Shiota is an eye catching piece. ”Breath of The Spirit” as it is titled, evokes a lot of thought as to what the meaning behind it all is– combined with a certain sense of whimsy and mystery.
The install is comprised of 600 shoes from people who no longer wanted them, and each shoe is individually tied by a strand of red yarn to one single point atop a building. She’s known for her offbeat installations, and this one is no different, with shoes that appear to be walking down toward you all on their own.
