When the term ‘beach house’ comes up, most of us thinking massive, contemporary homes overlooking the ocean along the coastline of sunny southern California. Well California’s coastline is also home to some unorthodox beach homes, such as this quaint Abalone House.
Designed by architect Thomas Cowen, the Big Sur based seaside house features impeccable views of the water. At first glance, this residence almost comes off as a piece of art rather a dwelling, and this is due to the fact that home is actually built underground, with a seashell like design emerging from the hillside. The seashell designed rooftop consists of a garden and a skylight to let natural sunshine into the residence.
