Although we hear a lot of people saying “print is dead,” there are many of us out there that would beg to differ, and we are constantly on the lookout for innovative and creative ways to display our book collections.
If you have a smaller space to work with, and a large collection of books there’s just no possible way a bulky bookshelf is going to fit. Well the team at Travis Price Architects were faced with a similar issue, and came up with a wonderful concept, building a bookshelf into the existing workspace, but using otherwise wasted space over head. Wade Davis needed plenty of room for his workspace books considering he is an anthropologist, ethnobotanist, author and photographer. The design team built the shelving units in a dome like space over the work area that can be accessed via ladder. Travis Price Architects describes the space “as similar to the rotunda of the oracle’s temple at Delphi.”
