Los Angeles is home to some of our favorite homes in the world. The southern California city has it all, with a strong emphasis on modern and contemporary architecture in the hills. Featured here is one of the more unique pieces of architecture in the Chemosphere House by John Lautner located in beautiful Hollywood Hills.
This eight sided, UFO inspired residence was constructed back in 1960, but was recently renovated by Taschen publisher Benedikt Taschen when the home was purchased back in 2000. Local LA firm Escher GuneWardena Architecture performed the restoration work, and the end result is marvelous. The house is nestled atop a 30 foot concrete pole, and requires visitors to take a rail -car up the hill from 100 feet below the house.
