Three women in South Africa have told their stories via Front Design and the Siyazama Project, which in turn ended up as beaded works of art on glass vases. The ladies in Durban, S.A. get together to talk about their lives and current events in their home land.
The Zulu women practice the traditional bead craft in KwaZulu-Natal, and their art tells a story. The stories that they shared with one another have been translated by them by threading pieces of their lives with glass beads onto wires.
These wires were made into vase-shaped moulds, into which glass was blown. With the Story Vases, Front used its conceptual approach to design, material and narrative to explore new ways of working with Zulu bead craft in collaboration with the Siyazama Project.
